Update on Wright Writes
don't worry, I'm not going anywhere
Hi friends. I wanted to give a short update today on this Substack, and some slight changes going forward.
I think my family has had someone sick in some form or fashion for almost two months. No lie, I calculated it yesterday. I’ve been calling our home the Petri Dish when I invite folks over. And people are not exactly lining up to take me up on my offer! Wisely.
Needless to say, all this sickness (as well as just the normal schedule of work and family life) has reduced the amount of time I have been able to spend writing for this Substack, which is a sad thing. A while ago, I set a goal for myself to try to write an article on Tuesdays and my Friday roundup on Fridays. And I’m proud of how consistent I’ve been able to be in that. At times it’s been challenging, but I have always worked better with some kind of a deadline (Sunday’s always coming, people). The substack has grown to almost 600 subscribers, and 9 paying subscribers (only one of which is my mom!). It’s been a really fun way for me to think in public about things that I find interesting, and I definitely want to keep doing it. I don’t have any grand goals, apart from becoming a better writer and sharing what I find interesting, particularly within the Methodist/Wesleyan world of ministry and church and how it relates to what is going on in the culture.
But I’m sensing, with the four kid life, and with the current season of my local church, that I need to change course a bit. I am going to be committed to my Friday roundup each week, because that for me is just fun and seems to get the most engagement from all of you. But instead of trying to produce something every Tuesday, my plan is to write longer pieces that I have more time to research and revise, and just send those out intermittently when they are ready. My guess is that will lead to more quality writing in the long run, which (hopefully) readers like you will appreciate.
So that’s all—just wanted to give you all a heads up. Thanks for being a reader. It’s been fun at times bumping into some of you (usually at something Methodist related) and you say that something I’ve written was meaningful to you. Can’t say how much that means to me when I hear it. My plan is to keep on trying to do just that, until I run out of things to say.
Peace in Christ,
Cambron
